RIHANNA – Jump (Club Cheval Rap Remix feat. Theophilus London)

When I first heard this song, I didn’t realise the original was by Rihanna – the female vocals seemed so insignificant next to Club Cheval ’s unbelievable production and Theophilus ’ amazing-as-always flow. You can imagine that upon this discovery I realised it could be almost unethical to write a review of what I had just been listening to.

However after a long, morally torn, sleepless night, and seeing as Rihanna only sings 8 lines in the entire song, I decided, ‘Fuck it, I’ll post the article and leave it to the editors to decide.’

So, if you’re reading this, I guess “Ri-Ri” has hit the big time and made it onto THE RIPE .

Club Cheval (made up of Myd , Canblaster , Sam Tiba and Panteros666 ) have tried their hands remixing American mainstream acts before. Much to the dismay of their French fans, the boys remixed Usher ’s ‘ Scream ’, taking a step away from their normally exclusively-left-field, forward thinking angle.

Thankfully with their remix of ‘ Jump ’ just about all the commercial EDM elements of the original have been thrown into the nearest bin and replaced with some heavy, hard hitting percussion work accompanied by some trademark quirky sliding melodies and, of course, Theophilus’ hypnotic bars.

It’s unsurprising to hear the French tour-de-force teaming up with Theophilus. It’s reported that they’re working with him on his new album. No matter how this love child came about, it’s pretty clear they’re both happy with the outcome – Club Cheval chucking it up for a free download and their new ‘Dapper Rapper’ buddy tweeting:

“New Music I missed u. im back and well & loved- download it, play it in club, email it to ur GF, dance on ya bf’s Lap”

Thanks for the advice Theophilus, will do.
