CROOKED COLOURS – Moontan Nocturnal (Grafton Primary Remix)

I was initially drawn to this song based purely on it’s name. I am one of those unfortunate glow-in-the-dark pale lurkers who has lived through (and made) my fair share of moon-tanning jokes, so I feel like this song spoke to me on a deeper, though very sad, level.

The song starts off simply enough, however about a third of the way through, the mood of the song shifts from an electro-pop remix with some dancier elements, to inviting a full blown 70s disco renaissance. This was in part thanks to the strong similarity the bass line shares with  Daft Punk ‘s “ Get Lucky ”, which was disco reincarnated for the mainstream on it’s release. In fact, one of the genre tags on this song’s  SoundCloud is “nudisco”. While I’m not quite up with (kinda don’t believe in) all the newfangled hybrid genres, I’m going to go ahead and concede that a label of nudisco, if that is actually a thing that exists now, would be fairly accurate here.

If you’re into electro remixes, the great thing about this song is that it offers lots of changes in pace, with highs and lows to keep you interested. There’s nothing worse than listening to a song that’s so repetitive that they might as well have looped it at the midway point and left it at that. Thankfully, this remix does nothing of the sort, and I was very impressed with the versatility and range, as well as the general good vibes present in this tune.

Moontan Nocturnal (Grafton Primary Remix) , is available for your listening pleasure now on SoundCloud .
