The balls-out move from Fuzzy to scrap the much loved Parklife festival was valiantly justified by their swift launch of the new “party redefined” format, Listen Out . Promising to be the “the antidote to many of the things you don’t like about big music festivals” - organisers hope to create a carefree party vibe with a philosophy of “best, not biggest”.
Needless to say, the names plucked for its debut are not so small, and include the likes of Disclosure , Aluna George , Duke Dumont and Azelia Banks . In line with its ‘IDM’ (Intelligent Dance Music) direction, organisers have hand-picked an abundance of local names including Touch Sensitive , Motez and ‘it’ group RÜFÜS .
In addition to all this, a third local stage has also been added to the party. The Red Bull Crate Diggers stage , will bring together a bunch of dance music experts and set them loose to excavate the music that inspired the sounds you’ll hear on the two other stages. Each of them will take a style, or time, in dance music and bring it back to living, breathing life via the time honoured DJ pastime of CRATE DIGGING. The Red Bull stage will host a bunch of names on rotation around the country, including Beni, Lancelot , Softwar and Sosueme DJs (see line-ups below).
The Listen Out party pops its cherry this Saturday in Sydney, followed by Perth on the 29 September, Melbourne on 5 October and then finishes up in Brisbane on the 6 October. More info on the Listen Out website .
