Australian gal, now based in London, George Mapel (aka Jessica Higgs ) has followed up her first solo release ‘ Uphill ’, with an even stronger offering, ‘ Fixed ’
If you recognise George’s voice its probably because you’ve heard her on releases from Flight Facilities and Flume . She has an instantly recognisable delicacy to her melodies.
These delicate tones have a distinct resonance to them that fits perfectly over the off jilted, lo-fi beats she’s been working with over the last little while, and ‘Fixed’ is a perfect example of this in full affect.
A soulful moan of “Ill fix my gaze on you” throughout the body of ‘Fixed’ repeats to the point of being hypnotic. Soft, layered vocals and swelling synth are arranged perfectly along side this lead line to maintain the trance through till the song’s final bar.
