Let’s be honest, we’ve all been in the situation described in the title of Blackcrosses new single, ‘ Lets Leave, its too Crowded and I’m Lonely ’. I’m certain Sigur Ros would’ve recorded it, if Perfume Genius became their new lead singer.
The closing track on their Distance EP, released earlier this year, is driven by a tired honesty, that’s played out slowly in a defeated sympathetic matter.
To grasp an understanding of Blackcrosses mindset, the five track EP contains an emotional, post-rock track right in the middle, titled ‘ For All the Nights After You Left, This is What They Sounded Like in My Head ’, which is better suited to be written entirely in casual lowercase letters, as they titled it.
This duo’s lead singer Chris Horry, previously from Auckland, relocated to Melbourne this year to record the EP on little money. Once he settles into Melbourne’s “buzzy” lifestyle (as he calls it), I’ll be curious to see what the Tasman Sea duo record next.
