Bewilderbeast, who is signed with electronic label Airlines, has released a 6-track album that explores unique aspects of electronic music through fuzzy and echoing synth, looped vocals, layered beat generating percussion and building electronic elements.
Unreal_Estate begins with previously released tracks ‘ Severed ‘ and ‘ Girlgrain ‘. ‘Severed’ is built around the looping of catchy soft synth where layeres of percussion, vocals and electronic elements slowly create an immense build and low-fi drop. ‘Girlgrain’ through the looping of vocals and humming synth generates a messier experimental sound , yet works as soothing vocals are sung over a wash of synth, keys and percussion.
Following on from ‘Girlgrains’ experimental sampling of vocals, ‘ Hampi ‘ with layered electronic elements, deeper synth, percussion looped vocals forms an elegant sound, that ascends after a blurry sampled conversation, into a haze of fuzzy layered noise before silence is regained and the next track ‘ Loam ‘, begins.
Bewilderbeast controls the beat of his tracks exceptionally well and without creating too much repetition as the tracks builds. ’Loam’ is a terrific example, as it possesses a low-fi build that breaks it self up through adding layers of synth, percussion and vocals which are then taken taken away.
Throughout Unreal_Estate the use of sampled and distorted vocals is strong, yet is not overly used and are complimented by soft vocals. ‘ Swimming ‘ upon first listen can be agitating, yet listen after listen you begin to pick up on the great use of modular synths, that reverberate under the sampled and looped vocal and electronic percussion.
Unreal_Estate finishes on the soothing ‘ Come Here ‘ in which falls away from the heavier use of synth and percussion that previous tracks explored, and becomes an accessible chill-wave gem.
Unreal_Estate reflects on many components of the growing production of electronic music, from building a song around looping synth, vocals and percussion that transforms into a heavier beat to styled soothing beats that many producers are trying to capture.
