Melbourne multi-instrumentalist and producer Chet Faker has today released his first original song since his breakthrough 2012 EP, Thinking In Textures . ‘Melt’ is a bleak and arty soul track that’s full of crooning melodies and hazy vocals, which evolve from signature organ and hip-hop beats.
American vocalist Kilo Kish chimes in on the second verse, adding a new dynamic that refreshes the track and prevents it from becoming otherwise monotonous. Overall the song does at times feel characterless, but abstract quirks keep it alive and save it from becoming too bleak.
‘Melt’ is the first release since Chet Faker (AKA Nick Murphy ) signed to prominent American label Downtown and it comes before he embarks on a 17-date North American tour. It’s also been confirmed that Chet Faker and Flume are putting together an EP, while Faker is also recording his much-anticipated debut album. Busy man.
There’s certainly some very big things to come. Stay posted.
