A troupe of ballerinas (I had to look that up) prepare for rehearsal and all hell breaks loose when the look of a scruffy bloke sets hearts aflutter. And if you’ve ever been to a show where The Magic Bones are playing, similar things ensue. Well, with less beating up of older women with crosses and stealing (?) muscle cars and ending with flashing. The last of those is a grey area though.
A four-piece from Melbourne that isn’t afraid to switch up their members’ instruments during a show, The Magic Bones offer a rollicking good time and
‘Once You Forget’
- their lead single from their double A-side – definitely keeps an upbeat mood as it bounces through two minutes where cutting loose is inevitable. Shades of
67 Special
(RIP) and
The Vasco Era
are evident here with
Kiri O’Connor’s
straight-to-the-point vocals demanding “Tell all your friends everything you like / I’m gonna make you mine” along with the lead riff echoing
Michael Hales
‘ bass riff, building an effective hook that really makes the listener at their disposal for the short length of the tune.
Making sure Melbourne is a place where bands know how to have fun rather than focusing on their image, the Bones sure get it right when they tell you “We’re gonna be so happy.” Hell yeah.
