My first impression of this track was found in the comments section of the YouTube video. Fellow YouTube dweller Robert Sloan was nice enough to point out that “there are not enough music videos where old women are punched in the face. Thanks for helping to reverse that trend”. Now that I think about it, old women being punched in the face isn’t a common plot line. I was intrigued.
The clip starts out like any hokey midnight infommercial for vacuum cleaners that you’re only watching because you came home drunk and finding the remote seemed slightly too challenging. You know the ones. This clip suddenly turns into the most awesome infommercial ever though when it offers a service far more relevant than superior suction – Douchebusters.
Set to a background of a rollicking, feel-good pop tune we have all come to know and love as a trademark of Bluejuice , “ SOS ” sets about destroying massive douches one roller-skating, bongo-playing, car-park stealing dickhead at a time. A few well known Australian personalities make cameos in the video too, so be sure to look out for that.
This may be kind of obvious thanks to the video, but Bluejuice don’t take themselves too seriously with this track. I love that there are still bands who, following after the success of bands like Butterfingers and Cake , take humour and incorporate it into cool pop tunes.
The song itself is wonderfully catchy and takes me back to the success of “ Act Yr Age” . The sound is much the same too, which is good news for fans of the band anxiously awaiting their new album. By the sound of this track, Bluejuice’s new album will deliver on the sound that their fans have come to expect, and I really hope that “Who you gonna call? DOUCHEBUSTERS” totally becomes a thing.
