The love child I’ve been waiting for has finally been delivered into the world. Meet Ta-ku ’s remix of City Calm Down ’s new single, ‘ Sense of Self ’.
Perth lad Ta-ku has been on our radar for some time now. He’s continued to come through with the goods over the last year, with remixes and originals of soul, trap and chill wave. This latest remix reminds us just why it’s a good time to be in the Ta-ku industry right now.
The trans-continental pairing with Melbourne lads City Calm Down, comes as their EP Movements , released in early November, dominates blogs and garners new fans for their beautifully synth-heavy melodies.
Ta-ku’s remix retains the body of the original’s vocals, though subtly plays with them – expanding them through some creative cutting and re-pitching work. The driving elements of the track are still there in the reworked chords and melodies, but the original’s synth-pop-anthem chorus is replaced with a progressively building and cutting structure. Holding it all together is an instantly recognisable, racketing Ta-ku beat, which tests just how far you can take trap styled snares and claps.
