Active Child released their first album, ‘ You Are All I See’, in 2011. But the artist first caught my attention when he covered American spiritual ‘ His Eye Is On The Sparrow ‘ earlier this year ( stream below ). Its simple piano accompaniment and perfectly subtle harmonisation really showed off the versatility of this artist. ‘ Subtle ‘ is the first single from Active Child’s forthcoming EP Rapor , due October 22nd on Vagrant Records .
Patrick Grossi ‘s high falsetto mixes so smoothly with the funky Michael Jackson- esque vocals of Mikky Ekko . A buzzing pallet of popping synths is the basis for this track, and is balanced out with those signature tight male vocal harmonies once again. The RnB inspired lyric is strong and intense, and furthered by the growing pallet of clicks, melodic synths and layered vocalisations makes it one enormously enjoyable sound. The resulting track is overall quite danceable, something not often heard in Active Child’s dramatic soundscapes.
