WOODY PITNEY – When You Go

After the release of his super catchy debut single, ‘ You Can Stay ‘ a few months back, Melbourne’s Woody Pitney  has let loose the second teaser track from his forthcoming EP Afterdust , which is due for release this weekend.

The new song, titled ‘ When You Go ’, takes a while to build up to its fuller sound, but in the meantime you get to bask in the slowly arpeggiated steel guitars, soft string accompaniment and even softer tinkling piano. Woody’s vocals entwine with these elements, carrying more of a modern country-esque sound to his voice, which you could liken to a more upbeat solo Bernard Fanning .

I sense a distinct theme of coming and going on this release (You Can Stay/When You Go), but aside from that, the man’s created a distinctly different feel in both tracks. It’s easy to imagine these songs featuring in a dynamic live set – you’d have a dance one minute then appreciate the hair-raising beauty of a slower ballad the next.

Woody hits The Workers Club to officially launch the EP tonight (Wednesday 2 October) with guests Grizzly Jim Lawrie and Trent Williams . Afterdust will be available on 30 September.
