Recently, the name Ta-Ku doesn’t seem to go away, and for good reason too. The Perth based producer is steadily amassing a growing legion of fans with his unique brand of swung-out hip hop and soul flavoured beats. And he shows no signs of letting up anytime soon. Off the back of his recently released Retwerk EP, and ahead of more big things to come, THE RIPE is delighted to present an exclusive guest mix from the wonder child himself.
A graduate from the esteemed Red Bull Music Academy in Barcelona, Ta-Ku is amongst an impressive list of alumni including Teebs , Onra , Dorian Concept and Pursuit Grooves . Since then he’s been a constant feature on blogs and zines worldwide as well as getting some serious airplay on triple j with his impressive work ethic, volume and ear for unique and progressive sounds. Over the last couple of years, between his many releases, Ta-Ku has worked with and been remixed by artists including Chet Faker , Flume , CyHi Da Prynce (G.O.O.D music) , Raashan Ahmad (Paper Chain labelmate) , John Robinson and Outasight . If this modest resume doesn’t sell him to you, thousands of plays and followers on SoundCloud make it clear that he’s doing something right.
His work just hasn’t seemed to let up over 2012, culminating in the recent much hyped Retwerk EP, which you can buy for a generous $10 from Bandcamp ( http://ta-ku.me/album/re-twerk ). It features originals and remixes of some names like Hermitude , Snakadaktal and Kendrick Lamar . It seems $10 can go along way in online music these days.
THE RIPE Guest Mix with Ta-Ku features ten songs he’s been digging and playing lately, put together over 32 minutes. You’ll hear a few original remixes (including a recent City Calm Down number) as well as tracks and remixes from Cashmere Cat , Luminox , Maths Time Joy and Jaw Jam . All together it makes one fast-paced, banging flurry of trap, soul and electro sounds and gives you insight into what all the hype surround Ta-Ku is about.
If you like what you hear keep an ear out around mid December for a forthcoming EP with a song featuring JSMN dropping with U.S music network ‘ Live For The Funk ’. For now, you can treat your bandwidth with a free download of this week’s exclusive guest mix.
