The Love Junkies
are at it again with new track ‘
Oxymoron
’. They’ve named it as the first single on their upcoming album, set for release this year, and I hope it’s a sneak peek of great things to come.
‘Oxymoron’ is short at just under two and a half minutes, but that’s all these indie rockers needed. What originally presented as a sweet invite-Nan-over-for-lunch-on-Sunday kinda tune, quickly turned into something else entirely. Reminiscent of the early work of The Vines , as well as fellow Aussies, Violent Soho , singer Mitch McDonald delivers killer vocals in a raw, guttural way, with a real 90s vibe. Not forgetting Robbie Rumble on bass and Lewis Walsh on drums however, who both do a stellar job.
Half indie tune, half grungy, garage-band rock, ‘Oxymoron’ reminds me of sticky beer-soaked floors, smoke-ridden walls, the bathrooms you’re too scared to go into, and the guys that have been hogging the pool table for three fucking hours – and I love it.
