Perth producer Sid Pattni ‘s debut EP Le Vidé provides the perfect soundtrack for tired minds looking to slowly slip into the start of the week. The long EP, containing 7 tracks, combines soft swirling pads, trip-hop beats and a collection of eclectic vocal samples that melt together like butter. The production throughout is coherent with a nicely defined style that combines ethereal layering, hip hop, soul and elements that leave you trying to work out what the hell is going on.
The vocal melodies on each track sound as if they’ve been carefully thought out as they ride each beat, rather than slapped precariously over the top. There’s this great feeling like a lot of thought and mastery has gone into each soulful sound. Included on the EP is a remix of his track ‘ Got to Learn Sometimes’ by fellow perth musician Ta-Ku .
It’s all very impressive and surprising for an artist that seems to have come out nowhere. Sid started making beats only a few months ago and then went on to be crowned runner up at The Bird ’s annual Beat Down competition (two weeks after he first started fiddling around with beats). Since releasing the debut EP in October, his music has stretched the globe through the blogosphere – showing a tonne of promise.
You can buy the EP via BandCamp and follow him on .
