The hype for Major Lazer ’s second album Free The Universe continues to grow this week with the release of two more tantalising hints as to what it’s all about, including a sample of a new track.
Earlier this week, the big news was the album’s teaser being released. An animated video in classic Major Lazer style, the visual feature a cast of bizarre characters doing their thang with an assortment of explosions. The video doesn’t give too much away other than hinting at a narrative that might surround the album, but it does feature a massive new track from the album, ‘ Bumaye ’, which is a rework of an old The Flexican and FS Green number.
In addition to this, subscribers of Major Lazer’s mailing list were treated with a surprise this morning, when the album’s tracklist was released, revealing with it the insane list of guests to be featured.
The long list of names reads as if Diplo has gone to town on Mad Decent ’s little black book, with his buddies from all corners of the music world taking part. In amongst some of EDM’s finest, featured on the album are Laidback Luke , Vybz Cartel , The Party Squad and Flux Pavilion (on recent single ‘ Jah No Partial ’).
More interesting is the list of guest vocalists working on the record. Among the featured are Santigold , Bruno Mars, Peaches , Tyga , Shaggy and Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend .
Major Lazer’s releases recently have been as diverse as they have been sporadic. You never know what to expect, but can usually count on it being impressive. With the track list released today, Free The Universe looks to be no different. Slated for a February 2013 release, time will tell.
