Earlier in April this year, on record store day, Just Friends (a collaboration between Nicolas Jaar and Sasha Speilberg ) released a vinyl-only track ‘ Avalanche ’ on 12″. Nicolas Jaar, along with his record label Other People , granted Los Angeles beatsmith Shlohmo the honour of remixing it.
Soft keys slowly bring in odd electronic sounds and heavily distorted vocals, as electronic percussion forms a beat in a hazy/chillwave notion. The remix is a blissful blur of quirky sounds with layered keys and percussion that later picks up in pace, fitting into an up-beat, slow groove before descending into soft keys.
Shlohmo creates an admirable sound through his own work and remixes, with ‘Avalanche’ exceeding his already high standard of work.
