London-based producer and musician Jon Hopkins has refashioned his track “ Breathe This Air ” with the angelic voice of Purity Ring ‘s Megan James . A heavier version of this single was originally released on Hopkins’ album ‘ Immunity’ in June but did not feature the vocals (stream the original below).
This update sees James’ soft and innocent voice wrangle with the chaotic rhythms, taming them from ever running off and turning the song in to anything wild. A slow synthetic pad is brought to the surface and this adds to the surreal feeling. It’s as if lullaby tones are fighting with stabbing synths and deep house progressions.
This isn’t the first time that Purity Ring and Hopkins have come together creatively. In July, Hopkins remixed the duo’s track ‘ Amenamy ‘ and he also has a production credit on ‘ Saltkin’ from their album ‘ Shrines ‘.
