Australian psychedelic alt-rockers Jagwar Ma are doing all the right things at the moment. Having just announced a series of international tour dates and festival slots (including Glastonbury & Splendour In The Grass ), the Sydney-based duo have revealed details of their new album ‘Howlin’ which is out through Future Classics on June 7 (Track-list below).
Along with the announcement comes the third release from the album, a double single: ‘ Man I Need // Exercise’ . It’s a two-for-the-price-of-one psychedelic jam which stretches out to nearly 10mins in length.
The strength of this duo is their focus and ability to combine rhythm and melody in a way that is wild, fun and seemingly spontaneous. This latest taste demonstrates why these guys are going to absolutely dominate every festival crowd they play in front of. Every second of ‘Man I Need // Exercise’ is just as unpredictable as the last. From the get-go, the listener is unobtrusively sucked in to their world and is left hypnotised by each swirling echo, ricochet and wildly struck percussive beat. After the 6min mark, the song explodes in to a tribal affair, complimented by chirping birds and a progressive dance beat. The whole thing becomes alive and it feel like you’ve been swallowed up in to the belly of a beast as it’s roaming wild through the jungle.
The guys will be returning to the UK for a number of tour dates in support of the release, including prestigious spots at the Great Escape and on the John Peel Stage at Glastonbury. They will be back in Australia for a Splendour appearance this July.
