Maribou State have given new life to Fatboy Slim’s anthemic dance classic ‘ Praise You ‘.
The 5.43m face-lift begins with escalating pads which build unobtrusively alongside an array of organic percussion , including j azzy symbols and brushed snares. Samples of eery electronic signals create a rich texture which flicker between the left and right channels, creating a sense of controlled chaos and detail. Fatboy Slims vocal starts creeping in as the layering continues to build to an abrupt halt . On a first listen, this point has you questioning just how Maribou State are hoping to steer their mix.
A soulful sine-chord progression whips everything back in to gear, creating a foundation on which more and more percussive elements are introduced to create a crescendoing drop – At this point the vocal hook is re-introduced in all it’s glory. T ambourine and a driving kick contribute to building a carnival atmosphere that has you singing along with original.
It’s not only refreshing to hear a remix of a classic, but also one that takes on it’s own unique stylings with such a diversity of instruments – both electronic and organic. I just can’t get enough.
