WiLSON caught my attention after Worlds End Press tweeted a link to the Melbourne duo’s soundcloud page , saying “ super excited for our Melbourne buddies WiLSON releasing their first song !”.
‘ After Antiques ‘ begins as distant chimes swirl and build and neighbourhood dogs bark at one another. Soft guitar loops sweep in amongst dramatic bass and bongos. The song takes shape quickly with layers of sound building and escalating into a mellow wash of sound.
This is broken loose by loud percussion and erratic saxophone which transitions the track into a slow funky pop jam, that is provoked by dual vocals.
Repeating vocals of “ la la la, la la la ” slowly take you into the come down, as each element of sound fades into silence, leaving guitar to softly take the final moments. For a first release track, the quality, execution and transition from a mellow atmosphere to a funky pop high, then slowly bringing into a mellow state is remarkable.
