Violent Soho are back with their newest single ‘
In The Aisle
‘. Following on from their latest release ‘
Neighbour Neighbour
‘, Violent Soho are preparing their arsenal for a huge album release.
The re-invigoration of this band has been monumental. They were a part of a plethora of Australian bands that belonged to a tired genre, teenage kids just weren’t in the market for punk music anymore. Instead, they searched for the most crass gangsta raps lyrics they could find and associated themselves with playing street ball and hustling on dem corners. Or even worse, they turned to that big European sound and thus became Swedish House Mafia fan boys.
Now, thanks to labels such as I OH YOU (to which Violent Soho signed to), we are seeing a resurgence in punk, alternative and metal music. Bands like Dune Rats, DZ Deathrays , and Drunk Mums are getting much belated recognition for their contributions to the Australian music scene. ‘In the Aisle’ is another such contribution.
It brings back memories of my childhood; playing Tony Hawk’s pro skater, hanging out at my local skate park and of course, my pyromaniac phase. It is definitely a dated sound, nothing extremely new for the genre, but that is what makes it so relate-able. The nostalgic qualities that their music holds makes it easily translatable to the little punk kids inside all of us.
We caught Violent Soho at the I OH YOU Halloween party last year, and my god was it messy.
