The Ripe Guest Mix with Twinsy

This week’s guest comes straight from “Ballafornia”, that fabled city in the west, and arrives just before the dynamic music-making duo Twinsy begin their live shows with Django Django .

After what can only be described as a colossal year for Guy Chappell ( Yacht Club DJs ) and Michael Belsar ( Hunting Grounds ), the guys have taken a step back from the guitars, drum kits and those live performances they’ve been feverishly working on, to put together a good ol’ fashioned mix tape of some of the tunes they’re really diggin’.

Twinsy’s accolades during the last 12 months are as impressive as they are diverse. Hitting the live show circuit hard, they’ve played across Victoria and interstate, supporting the likes of Last Dinosaurs and Hermitude . This weekend the guys are set to support Scottish art-rockers Django Django at the Metro in Sydney on 11 January, and at the Hi-Fi in Melbourne on 12 January. From accounts of recent Twinsy shows, their “infectious, mischievous and playful tropical pop evoking dance” will undoubtedly hit the mark when they take to the stage.

While much of the last few months were spent in the spotlights, early 2012 saw the guys locked down in the studio. Their debut single ‘ Waterbombs ’ came in at a staggering third most played in 2012 on triple j . Released with a very fun video, it should fare well in the Hottest 100 . New single ‘ Back Of My Car ’ from the same EP is set for release in February, and after ‘ Waterbombs ’’ success it’s sure to get plenty of love too.

THE RIPE Guest Mix with Twinsy is probably one of the most diverse collections of music we’ve ever had the pleasure of posting. It’s an incredibly wide range of sounds and artists that guys listen to and admire, put together as a kind of Guide to the Ears of Twinsy . In the action-packed 44 minutes you’ll hear everything from Tame Impale , TNGHT , Frank Ocean and Friendly Fires right through to Pusha T , Grimes and even a little cheeky bit of Rod Stewart . I hate to use the most over-used word in online blogs, but if any thing can be described as “eclectic” this would be it.

Tickets for Twinsy and Django Django are on sale now, get ‘em while they’re hot.
