The Ripe Guest Mix with Luke Million

Let the smooth sultry beats of Luke Million fill out your speakers this week, with the latest Ripe Guest Mix from the Adelaide producer.

First making waves as one half of The Swiss, Luke Million now finds him self making music for the dance floor’s masses as a side-solo project. Over the last couple of years Luke has been prolific in touring and music making. No doubt you would have heard his massive breakout single ‘Arnold’ among his catalogue of synthy-smooth disco beats.

After capping off a massive 2012 of shows by playing at Pyramid Rock Festival at Phillip Island, the Italio disco maker has been working hard in the studio, cooking up some new tunes for releases in the coming months. But for now, he’s back out spinning decks around the country, including a forthcoming show in his hometown on the 4 th of May, his first since Parklife 2012.

Mr Million’s mix lives up to expectations in it’s deliverance of everything from nu-disco to grooving house. In the mix you’ll find tracks from massive names like Duke Dumont , Moullinex to triple j unearthed high finalist Tyler Touche .

Luke had a chat to us about what he’s been up to:

*****

Matt Bladin: You had a massive 2012, filled with plenty of shows locally and abroad, all ending with a set at Pyramid. How was the vibe on Phillip Island over nye?

Luke Million: Pyramid was a great way to round off the year. I played a sunset set to a booty shaking crowd and knocked back drinks with a bunch of awesome peeps.

M.B: You’ve been “cooped up in the studio lately”, does it feel good to be getting back into the tour circuit over this last months or so?

L.M: Touring is awesome. I love jumping on a plane and having a little adventure for the night. You get to meet new people and also catch up with old friends, eat great food and somewhere in between all that you get to party on the dancefloor

M.B: Any thing new we can expect from this “cooped up” studio time?

L.M: Indeed! I have some new material which should be released June/July. It’s been a while since I have released anything, so I’m really looking forward to sharing some new tunes. Be prepared for something a little different, but it will still have my signature sound.

M.B:  You always seem to have no shortage of hardware at hand, based on some pics we’ve seen of you in the studio! Is hardware where your loyalties lie in the software/hardware debate?

L.M: Well there is nothing like a good piece of hardware in your hands haha. I think something special happens when you actually are playing an instrument and it becomes an extension of yourself. It feels more natural and for me I find it really inspiring. But in saying that, software is great too. Both have their place in the studio. At the end of the day if something sounds good… it sounds good!

M.B: People have obviously been loving your solo ventures, what freedoms/hindrances do you find come with making solo music as opposed to working in The Swiss?

L.M: Both ways of working are great. I guess when you are on your own there is the extra creative freedom but that also comes with limitations. When you work with others you are able to bounce ideas off each other and push things in a direction you would not have been able to come up with by yourself.

M.B: We heard The Swiss is working on a new album, any releases coming soon?

L.M: We have been sitting on quite a few songs for a while now and yes these songs will see the light of day very soon. Not long until all is revealed and we are very excited!

M.B:  What can we expect from Luke Million in the near future?

L.M: Well firstly, new music, more shows in Australia and maybe another little European Adventure.
