The Ripe Guest Mix w/ Loot & Plunder

Bringing in March with a new guest mix, it’s those party starting boys from Adelaide, Loot and Plunder . Normally found riding from city to city spreading their own brand of house tunes across the dance floors of Australia, the boys have taken some time amongst their already building momentum in 2013 to put together a small collection of songs for what we like to call, The Ripe Guest Mix.

On paper, Loot and Plunder have a pretty impressive resume. Including ranking #1 in S.A. for the Sony In The Mix’s DJ Poll and just a cheekie #7 overall. They’ve tried their hands on many a remix for some big names including Monkey Safari , Urchins and DannyT on a number of labels varying from Sweat It Out to Jump to This . Establishing themselves as go to players when one has the need to get a dancefloor moving, the lads have worked to create for themselves whilst working the hell out of their nice little Deep/tech house niche.

Is this regard The Ripe Guest Mix delivers exactly what you would hope to hear: smooth, rich house sounds a-plenty within the 30 minute mix. Through out you’ll hear the work of names like, Duke Dumont , Tensake and Disclosure to name a few.

We had a chat with the guys about what’s been going on.

Matt Bladin: What kind of sounds are getting a spin in a Loot and Plunder set recently?

Loot and Plunder: We have always been known to play a few different genres of music and at the moment we are playing House, Deep House, Tech House and a little bit of Electro and Trap to keep the kids happy.

M.B: Being Adelaide boys yourselves, and obviously playing around the place, how do you find the crowd’s tastes from city to city? Do you consciously change up your set when you know you playing in Melbourne for example?

L.P: I think you really have to plan each set differently, whether it be a set in Adelaide, Melbourne or anywhere else around Australia. What might be big tune one city could clear a dancefloor in another. If we were playing a set in Melbourne we would definitely include a lot more of that Melbourne bounce sound that is ever so popular at the moment.

M.B: We saw you guys recently did the Lipton Ice Tea Virgin Cocktail Summer Exhibition Tour with PedestrianTV, how did that go down?

L.P: Xavier had only just moved back to Adelaide days before the gig so it was quite exciting to play together for the first time in a couple of months and help launch the new range of Lipton Virgin Cocktails.

M.B: You guys have been pushing out some massive remixes lately. Whats your creative process when you approach the remixing of a tune?

L.P: Firstly we like to listen to the original as many times as we can on repeat just to listen how they constructed the track, how they have worked their breakdowns and the different drum variations they use throughout the track.  We then go through the stems and pull apart the different sounds that we like and want to use in the remix and from then on its just adding our own touch to the remix.

M.B: Who is killing it in Australia at the moment and why?

L.P: Flume is definitely killing at the moment with his unique sound and also as his duo – What So Not with Emoh Instead!!! Benson & Hey Sam are some great producers out of Melbourne releasing some damn hot music. There are also a lot of great local producers around Adelaide doing great things at the moment like Motez, Wellsaid & Rubberteeth and the Bollocks Djs. One other quick mention to the Parachute Youth boys who are about to embark on an overseas tour and release a new EP in the near future.

M.B: Whats in store for you guys in the near future?

L.P: Release some originals, remixes and run a few parties around Adelaide.
