The John Steel Singers have just released their new single ’ State Of Unrest’, which is the first taste of their forthcoming album. The song leans towards more of a slightly psychedelic indie rock direction than the guitar led pop tunes we were introduced to on their 2010 debut ‘ Tangalooma ‘. There’s none of that bobby keyboard or trombone action, instead a whole bunch of neat little twinkling effects scattered over the super fuzzed up rock track.
It’s a lengthier song form the boys, just passing the 5 minute mark, but the content isn’t dull. They draw you in with the booming (but repetitive) bass line, crazy falsetto vocals from Trimmington Morrissey , and lots of reverberative guitar work. A mid-section features some nice pure instrumentals, with ascending bleepy glitch tones flying overheard before returning to the main chorus.
This new evolution of TJSS’ sound is a welcome one, making the new album definitely one to look out for.
