We’ve slept on this one for a bit (it came out about a week ago) but I’d rather make a fashionably late post than risk any of you missing out on a tune this good.
The Galaxy Folk are like many DIY bedroom projects, with a couple of intimately-recorded tracks and scraps of information about handmade recordings and band members, all scattered across the known Internet. Unlike most DIY bedroom projects, the Galaxy Folk has been given life, firstly as a live band and soon as a band with a physical 10 inch record to their name.
That record, which might be called honeygarden if Bandcamp can be believed, is getting launched at the Tote on September 7 th . Until then, there’s “Down Under”,
The band’s sole comment on “Down Under” is that it was recorded “using a line 6 spider amp”; in case that means anything to you. Even if it doesn’t, it’s hard to avoid getting caught lost in the results. It’s a gorgeous, billowing song, an inch-perfect exercise in languid melancholy. Turn it on, bliss out, and probably turn up to the Tote in September because the 10 inch is “very limited and very handmade” and, let’s face it, this band will not be staying in the bedroom for much longer.
