Leaping on to the Grammy opportunistic bandwagon, Purity Ring re-cut and re-dazzle Soulja Boy ’s ‘ Grammy ’. Their cover brings so much more to the party. The original is slow and mundane when put next to this. Listening to this rework is like putting Pop Rocks in your mouth and turning up the happy vibes to 100 Japanese harajuku dancers. It drips with potential for a 4am dance floor session.
The layers of echoing voice samples maintain the R’n’B aesthetic and grind it down with a deep bass. It makes my heart flutter with how flirtatious this track is. Corin Roddick ’s voice pulsates through my electronic veins. It also incorporates the atmospheric hues, Purity Ring are known for.
A song that was only reserved for their live concerts is now available en masse.
Purity Ring are touring Australia next month. You can catch them at The Corner Hotel in Melbourne on 8 March. See me freaking out at the front.
