Getting airplay on triple j and Fbi radio is a massive accomplishment, but when the songs are from a DJ/producer duo making club tracks, the achievement is that much more impressive. Indian Summer got their first plays on triple j a while back when ‘ 1.01 My Heart Drops ‘ featured on Home & Hosed . It is very rare that you see a dance track designed specifically for appeasing a club crowd make it on that show. It’s an indication that Gabe and Chevy are getting to that next level of production and songwriting.
Their new release, ‘ Foreign Formula’ , is a future-bass jam. Coming in at a hip hop tempo, we hear the vocal pitching that Indian Summer utilised so well on ‘ No Use ‘. I really don’t want to say this, because every Australian producer that has made a track in the last year has received this comparison, but I really can hear a lot of Flume in ‘Foreign Formula’. It reminds me of a club friendly version of ‘ Insane ‘. A down tempo banger that enlist the help of vocal samples, heavy bass hits and warping synths – the comparison was hard to ignore.
Nevertheless the pair are doing it smart, releasing two track EPs and growing their fans until the time is right to release a catalog that is a little more substantial. ‘ No Use/1.01 My Heart Drops ‘ was a massive success, so why not follow that same module? With this, comes the ability to curve your music to different influences and this is no doubt what is taking place this new release. The B-side to Foreign Formula, ‘ Grand Rapids ‘, is a testament to this, bringing those unique french electro house vibes reminiscent of artists such as Mr. Oizo .
The boys are going on a massive national tour to support ‘Foreign Formula’ throughout June, July & August.
