This is how a cover should be. I love it when a band has their own original interpretation of a song that takes elements of the original and restructures them to create something completely unique.
Daughter takes the disco infused dance track from Daft Punk and turns what was a triumphant carefree pop jam into something a little more sinister. Lead singer Elena Tonra seductively draws you in with her whimsical take on Pharrel William ‘s vocals whilst the rest of the band curate an emotional backdrop of sound with wailing guitars and a probing orchestral introduction.
It is a smart move from Daughter, jumping on what is the biggest track in the world right now and giving it a unique makeover. The power of this cover holds amazing promotional power for the band with the cover going viral on the interwebs in just less than a day of its release. But the fame of Daft Punk is not the only reason that this track so popular, it is smart, well thought out and beautifully executed.
