Adam Boal ‘s solo project, ‘ Kodiak Galaxy’ had me at its description: “Influences: Captured Tracks Records ”. Well almost. I still had to find something charismatic within the song.
The influences in ’ 14 Days ’ are highly evident. Between the resembling intro of “ Midnight Song ” by Wild Nothing , to the Ride cymbal drum patterns and the Beach Fossils reverberating vocals. However, what lifts ’14 Days’ off the page, from the lead singer of Melbourne band The Quivers, is the simply versatile, yet relatable The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart type lyrics.
Maybe it’s the cold winter of Melbourne approaching, but when he tiredly sings “14 days until you’re at my car”, I immediately relate it to the thoughts of a day to day man, who’s grown to appreciate the simple pleasures of being in a warm car. Well, that’s at least how I personally connected to it, however you may interrupted the line entirely differently.
